Trevor Mansell
OBOE
A native of Calgary, Alberta, Trevor Mansell is an oboist, pianist, arranger, and avid composer of music. He holds an undergraduate degree in Music Performance from Lynn University where he studied oboe with Joseph Robinson, former Principal Oboe of the New York Philharmonic, and composition with Thomas McKinley. He also holds a Master’s degree in Music Performance from Florida State University where he studied oboe with Eric Ohlsson, Principal Oboist with the Tallahassee Symphony. In 2022, he graduated from the Tianjin Juilliard School in China, where he studied oboe with Scott Bell, and composition with Niccolo Athens.
Throughout his career, Mansell has held a variety of orchestral positions. Between 2018 and 2020, Mansell held the position of second oboe in the Tallahassee Symphony and second oboe with the Sinfonia Gulf Coast. In addition, he was a frequent performer with the Jacksonville Symphony, Boca Sinfonia, Miami Symphony Orchestra, and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mansell has performed across the world with appearances in North America, Europe and most recently in China. In 2018, Mansell traveled to Hungary to perform a chamber music recital with the Syzygy Winds. Here he was invited to play with the Szeged University Orchestra and had his Three Beatles Songs for Piano and Winds performed. He also returned to Hungary in 2022 to perform a flute and oboe recital. Mansell has also performed in Paris and in Germany, where selections of his Divertimento for Orchestra were performed by the Calgary Youth Orchestra.
In 2018, Mansell was featured on public radio’s WQXR Young Artist Showcase, with an interview and recital including Mozart’s Oboe Concerto, Saint-Saëns’ Oboe Sonata and Martinu’s Oboe Concerto.
In addition to having a vibrant performing career, Mansell is a successful composer and arranger. He has written for a variety of instrument ensembles, with a particular affinity for winds, brass, and piano. His Sonata for Oboe and Piano (2014) has been a staple of his repertoire and has been performed numerous times. He has also received multiple commissions, including his Divertimento for Orchestra, Six Variations on Arirang, Fantasy for Solo Oboe, and most recently his Fantasy Pastorale. Several of his compositions have been published and are available through TrevCo Music Publishing.
